Marioupol, who was the home of some 450,000 people before the war, has been almost under constant attack by Russian forces since the beginning of March with satellite images showing considerable destruction in populated areas.
European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Monday that what is happening in Marioupol is a massive war crime.
Zelensky in his speech continued to encourage Ukrainians to do everything they can to protect the country.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in late February, “we are seeing more and more heroes. Once ordinary Ukrainians and now true warriors”, he said.
Ukrainian leader also said that ordinary citizens in Ukraine are “achieving” to the point that Russia “does not believe this is reality” and added, “ne we will make Russia believe”.
“Fight, continue to fight and help,” he asked Ukrainians.
