This concern also appears to have affected Albania, one of the 30 member states of the military alliance, NATO.
Referring to a decision by the Council of Ministers on March 2nd, defence spending in the next three years is expected to increase significantly. Out of $362m this year, spending next year is projected to increase to $364m to reach $441m in 2025.
“Viti 1999 clearly showed that the Albanian Army should have increased its budget, because during the Kosovo war we often had incubations of Serb forces on our territory, where there was also a 4km mine of Albanian territory. We weren't able to protect that territory. These indicate that our defence capacities had dropped”, says Dritan veryj.
For military affairs connoisseur, Dritan Goody, these projected investments must go in three main directions.
“In the naval, air and antiaircraft forces, as in Albania these exist only on paper”, Purkj said.
Currently, Albania spends on protection of 1.54 per cent of Brto's domestic production. That figure is significantly lower than Serbia or Montenegro, while in proportion to NATO it is nearly 50 per cent less.
