Russian oligarchs are welcome in Turkey, but must respect international law to do any business, Reuters quoted Turkish Foreign Minister Mevluüt Cavuşoğlu as saying, The Guardian.
Turkey has sharply criticised Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but opposes sanctions imposed by its NATO allies. Speaking at the international conference of the Doha Forum, Cavuşoğlu said:
If Russian oligarchs ... or any Russian citizens want to visit Turkey, they can, of course. If you mean if these oligarchs can do any business in Turkey, then certainly if it's legal and not against international law I will consider it. If it's against international law, then it's another” story.
Two supersedes linked to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich have been anchored in Turkish resorts, Reuters reports. Western governments have targeted Abramovic and several other Russian oligarchs with sanctions, while they seek to isolate Russian President Vladimir Putin and his allies on the invasion of Ukraine by Moscow.
