President of the United States ( The USA), Joe Biden, has already arrived at the extraordinary NATO summit under way in Brussels. The extraordinary summit was called to respond to the war in Ukraine, a consequent visit coming as the West continues to face the way it prevents Russia's invasion.
Biden heads to a brief meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and takes a family photo with other NATO leaders, welcoming United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and French President Emmanuel Macron, among other things.
A meeting of the European Council and G7 will also take place on Thursday.
Beden is determined to uncover sanctions against Russian political figures and oligarchs during the summits, the White House has said, and prior to Thursday's main meetings in Brussels, the US government also officially declared that the Russian Army has committed war crimes in Ukraine.
According to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, Beden will discuss “continued prevention and defence efforts” during the NATO summit and reaffirm the US commitment to its NATO allies.
