American officials are considering an agreement with Poland, where Poland would provide Soviet-era aircraft to Ukraine in exchange for American fighter F-16s, according to American media.
The latest movement to help Ukraine with Russia's advancement follows a meeting between Volodyyr Zelensky and more than 300 American senators, in which the Ukrainian leader said his country needed more planes.
“We are working with the Polish on this issue and consulting the rest of our NATO allies”, said a White House official for American media.
Ukrainian pilots reportedly need aircraft produced by Russia, because they are trained specifically to fly into those systems, the BBC writes.
The White House said President Joe Biden spoke to Zelensky on Saturday evening and noted that the US is “achieving” security, humanitarian and economic assistance for Ukraine “and is working closely with Congress to secure additional funding”
