Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said briefly that his country's relations with China are at a higher level than ever before, writes The Guardian, past Periscope.
China remains one of the few states that has not condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and has been highly critical of Western sanctions and has voiced itself against the effort to expel Russia from the G7 group.
Lavrov also seems to deny the possibilities for direct talks between the two presidents, Putin and Zelenksy, saying this would be “against-productive”. Retweers quoted the Russian diplomat as saying this meeting could only happen when the two sides are close to agreeing to key issues
On the other hand, Ukraine's Interior Ministry adviser, Vadym Denysenko, said earlier that he does not expect “any progress on key issues” in the talks expected to begin today.
