He called on European and NATO allies to send essential weapons to protect airspace over Kiev.
“We are able to close our own airspace”, Klitscho said.
But we definitely need the right weapons”, he added.
NATO has consistently refused to create a no-fly zone over Ukraine, calling in fears it could lead to a direct military confrontation between Russia and the West.
According to Klitzcho, Kiev has so far recorded over 200 civilians killed, while close to 2 million residents are still in the city.
