The Swedish Armed Forces report that 4 Russian fighter planes violated Swedish airspace today.
Russian combat aircraft have violated Swedish airspace on Wednesday. So said Air Force chief Carl-Johan Edström in a press release on the Swedish Armed Forces website.
The Air Force conducted an operation and documented the incident, in the form of photography by Jas 39 Gripen.
This shows that our readiness is good. We were on the ground to ensure the territorial integrity and borders of Sweden. We have full control of the” situation, says Air Force chief Carl-Johan Edmund in the press release.
<x0)Joprofessional and irresponsible”
There were two Russian combat aircraft of the SU 27 model and two Russian fighter aircraft of the SU 24, which violated Swedish airspace.
The violation, according to the Armed Forces, was short - lived and occurred across the sea east of Gottland.
Under the current situation, we take the incident very seriously. It is a non-professional and irresponsible act on the part of Russia”, the Air Force chief says.
SU-27, which has NATO rapporteur name “Flanker”, is a combat aircraft. SU-24, which has NATO rapporteur name “Fencer”, is an attack aircraft and bomber.
Defence Minister: “utterly unacceptable”
Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist (S) declares for TT that the violation will lead to “a clear diplomatic signal from the Swedish side”.
The collapse of Swedish airspace from Russia is certainly completely unacceptable. This will lead to a clear diplomatic signal from the Swedish side. Swedish sovereignty and territory should always be respected”, the defence minister writes in a message for TT.
He goes on to say that actions are unprofessional and that this act should be considered a serious offense.
Russia's “Actions should be considered unprofessional. Today's security policy situation means that what happened should be considered very serious”.
