Today, what we see is the ugly face of war that explodes again on our borders. And the Russians are bombing and grenadeging everything: hospitals, homes, schools. Many civilian victims. It is a barbarous form of making war”, Borrell told reporters before a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on Friday.
He called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the bombings.
“Putin must stop fighting this war. We remain united in demanding that this war be stopped and for avoiding the killing of innocent people”, Borrell added.
The chief of EU diplomacy added that the UN Human Rights Council will soon launch a mission to assess the violation of human rights taking place on Ukrainian territory”.
US and other Western officials have told CNN that Russia is expected to hit more and more civilian targets and shift towards a strategy of the Ukrainian Army's “slow annihilation”.
