In an address to negotiators, Erdogan said it is time for the talks to yield concrete results and called for an immediate ceasefire, adding that “the halting of this tragedy” depends on both sides.
Erdogan said that both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin were precious “enemies”.
The Turkish president said Ukraine and Russia have “legitimate concerns”, but added that the time has come for the talks to yield concrete results.
He also said that the correct “outlook” has no losers and that the continuation of the conflict suits no one.
At such a critical moment, we are pleased to welcome you and contribute to your efforts to establish peace”, he said. “I hope our meeting and our discussions go to the benefit of your states, our region and all of humanity”, Erdogan said.
This is the second meeting to be held in Turkey, as in early March, Ukrainian and Russian top diplomats met in Antalya, but their meeting ended without any concrete results.
The sides also held meetings in Belarus and via online platforms, aimed at ending Ukraine's unprotested Russian occupation, which began on February 24th.
