In an interview for “Sunday Telegraph”, Foreign Minister Trus said there would be a return to sanctions, in previous conditions, if the Russian president were to attack again.
Truss announced that a “negotiation unit” was drafted by the Foreign Ministry to help with possible peace talks.
While the Kremlin troops are fighting, its statement can be seen as a possible incentive for Putin to stop his attacks and reach an agreement with Ukraine.
After a month of war, Moscow has signalled it can reduce its ambitions to fight for control of the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.
But Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that he would not give up territory in the peace talks, while noting that his troops have given a powerful “x1> to invading forces.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Western allies are seeking to steadily expand sanctions to punish Putin and those supporting his regime. / DPA/
