The recogniser of political developments for the Western Balkans, Florian Bieber, has positively assessed Serbia's vote for the UN General Assembly resolution to condemn the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
He, through a reaction to Twitter, has asked why Serbia made the big turn and has analysed the reasons the Serbian state may have pushed towards that decision.
Serbia's “voting, in favour of the General Assembly resolution on Russia's sentence, is a surprising twist, after the long silence, conveyed by the undefined resolution of the National Security Council (Serbia). What does that mean?
Bieber has estimated that one of the reasons Serbia has taken such an act could be its tactic to avoid the possibility of isolation, where it is seen as one of Russia's few allies in Europe.
“could also be a re-run strategy behind the given vote, however, its media have not yet taken a new position. It's worth looking at over the next few days -- ” -- wrote away Bieber.
A change of position in Serbia, Bieber writes, would have meaning abroad for Serbia. “would reduce the pressure, given the EU's unity and global change. It would help secure cruise support from the West at the time of losing old allies such as Merkel”, he points out.
However, he writes, changing position would be a deal with the devil for Vucinciqi. It is difficult to imagine a change with the way that government undermines democracy and rehabilitates war criminals. He, like a good “stabilocrat”, can hope for a deal like support me and I'll be on your side”, analyze it out of Bieber.
At this time, according to Bieber, Vucic could hold lower reports with Russia and China, though both have defended it in its position on Kosovo on the UN Security Council.
But Vucinqi's biggest risk could be the loss of voters.
In spite of that, he could risk it, given the control he has on the media and institutions and say West, support me because others are more pro-Russian than I am, writes the German analyst at the bottom.
