More than 4 million people, or almost 10% of Ukraine's population prior to the war, have left their country since the beginning of the Russian occupation in late February, UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said today. Philippo Grandi.
“I just arrived in Ukraine. In Lviv I will discuss with the authorities, the UN and other partners ways to increase our support for the affected and displaced people from this meaningless war,” Grandi wrote on Twitter.
Refugees fleeing to Ukraine include at least 203,000 third countries' citizens, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) said yesterday.
More than 2.3 million Ukrainian refugees have fled to Poland, while hundreds of thousands have fled to neighbouring countries, including Romania, Moldova and Hungary, according to UN data.
Grandi has previously named the export of refugees from Ukraine “the crisis of faster growing refugees in Europe since World War II”.
