20 Doctors Leave Kosovo Only This Month

Experts see the departure of doctors from Kosovo very disturbing. They even say that because of low wages, health professionals are being forced to choose migration for a better life. Former Health Minister Andmend Zemaj, in an interview for Online Economy, said the displaced doctors are leaving the country for work and dignified lives.
“Diku 48 doctors have only left Kosovo in recent months. They are leaving, but because of government conditions and non-support, they are leaving for work and dignified life”, Zemaj said.
That Kosovo is being deprived of doctors, says Kosovo's Oda of Medicine Chairman Pleat Sejdiu, in an interview for Online Economy, adding that within 10 years hospitals will begin to close.
“Brengosing isn't just the number because over 20 doctors left this month alone. Their number waiting to leave is much greater. Over half of them are in specializations and are not satisfied with what the state offers for their schooling”.
And within 10 years our hospitals will start shutting down by then. In ten years, 300 people will retire. We have a system that does not provide enough conditions for the actual work of doctors and security in their work”, Sejdiu said.
While AAK MP Shemsedin Dresey said the lack of merit wages has led to so many doctors leaving Kosovo.
There is migration, but one of the basic reasons is low wages. Given this phenomenon, we are losing the best qualities in Kosovo”.
Zemaj called on the Government and the Health Ministry to bring the wage law for approval to the Assembly, otherwise as deputy, legal initiatives will be taken.
We don't know how much it's working on the Law of Pays, but we know it's not being done in the sense of that there's no public discussion. What we saw last year in the legislative strategy has proved that it has not been completed and that such a procedure has not been achieved either for drafting the Law and wages and for health insurance. It was promoted to behave, but it wasn't one or the other.
We're looking for solutions to be correct with a merit salary for those who don't have it now. When you're closed, and when you're not transparent with your people, then you raise dilemmas that aren't doing anything. It takes courage, action, and complete coordination to find the best possible. Neither is the government nor the health ministry. So we call so quickly that there will be co-ordination otherwise we have to take legal initiatives as deputy of this Parliament, whether for the Health Law or the Law for Health Insurance and the Law for Pay”.
And Dresaj said the laws are under way, but unfortunately there are many delays until their approval. / EO
