Secretary - General NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said at a news conference in Brussels that Russia has not stopped planning for a full invasion of Ukraine since recognition of separatist enclaves, reports The Guardian.
Each indicator is that Russia is continuing to plan for a full-scale attack on Ukraine”, Stoltenberg told reporters.
“We continue to call on Russia to withdraw ... it is never too late to attack”, he said.
Stoltenberg's comments come at a time when Russia's Supreme Chamber has accepted Russian President Vladimir Putin's request to attack abroad. Russia's Supreme House of Parliament voted unanimously this afternoon to approve Putin's request to deploy Russia's armed forces abroad for what it described as a peacekeeping mission in two separatist regions of eastern Ukraine.
Stoltenberg has praised Ukraine for its tacit behaviour and for failing to respond to Russia's repeated provocations, adding that NATO is “united in their full support for Ukraine's sovereignty and integrity of territory”.
Stoltenberg has described the crisis in Ukraine as the most dangerous “moment for European security”.
