The presidency of the Council and representatives of the European Parliament today have reached agreement on the draft regulation for visa-free travel for passport owners issued by Kosovo.
The now agreed” Text must be approved by the European Council and Parliament before passing the formal approval procedure”, said among other things in the issued statement.
The new regulations will allow Kosovo passport holders to travel to the EU without a visa, for a period of 90 days in each 180-day period. This exception from visa requirements will be implemented by the starting date of the European Information System and Travel Authorisation (ETIAS) and, in any case, not later than January 1st, 2024.
Kosovo has reportedly made apparent progress in all blocs of the guide for visa liberalisation.
On the basis of this assessment, the Commission proposed lifting visas for holders of passports issued by Kosovo. Disfellowshipping from visa requirements will ensure that the entire Western Balkans region is under the same visa regime. The commission will continue to actively monitor the implementation of these requirements, including harmonisation of visa policies, through mechanisms following visa liberalisation”, specified in the announcement.
