Qatar officials have decided that the only drinks that will be available for fans at stadiums during the World Cup will be non-alcoholic.
The decision to ban the sale of beer was confirmed Friday morning by a World Cup official. The official sought to remain anonymous because they were not authorised to speak to news media and because Qatar was still preparing his official announcement for Friday morning.
This decision is the latest and most dramatic change for alcohol work that has been rising for months of tensions between FIFA, the global football governing body, and Qatar, a conservative Muslim nation where the sale of alcohol is heavily controlled.
But it will also complicate FIFA's $75 million sponsorship agreement with Budweiser; anger fans.
