Kosovo's Olympic team will leave on January 29th towards China, to participate in the “Pejkin 2022” Winter Olympics.
Kosovo at this Olympics will be represented by two skiers: Albin Tahiri, 32, and Kiana Kryeziu, 17.
Kosovo Olympic Committee Chairman Ismet Krasniqi said at a news conference that the participation of two Kosovo sports at the Olympics in China is a big achievement.
The “in the Olympics participate 90 states and 105 countries have failed to win Olympic rates”, he said.
The Olympic Committee's expectations are for two athletes to have a good ranking in the final ranking.
Our “expectations are not what they are at the Northern Olympics are, given how difficult the ski sport”, Krasniqi said, remembering that from the Summer Games, Kosovo returned with two gold medals to the judo sport.
Meanwhile, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani handed the Olympic team to the Kosovo state flag. She said athletes are the best ambassadors, as “even in countries that have not recognised us, are continuing to raise our flag”. China has not recognised Kosovo's independence.
This is the second time Kosovo participates in the Winter Olympics. In 2018, at the Olympics in South Korea, Kosovo was represented by skier Albin Tahiri.
The Winter Olympics “Pekin 2022” will be held from February 4th to February 20th.
