China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke over Ukraine over a call held Wednesday, Reuters writes.
“We call on all sides to remain calm and refrain from doing things that stimulate tensions and increase the crisis”, the Chinese chief diplomat told his American counterpart, according to China's Foreign Ministry statement.
On the other hand, the State Department issued a statement saying: “Secretary Blinken conveyed the message that suspension and diplomacy are the way forward. The US also said that part of the conversation with the Chinese diplomat was also the economic risks and global security posed by further Russian aggression against Ukraine.
The Chinese minister, clearly referring to Russia's complaints to NATO enlargement in eastern Europe, told Blinkent that a country's security should not be at the expense of other people's security and that regional security cannot be guaranteed through empowerment or even expanding blocs, according to the China Foreign Ministry.
To resolve the Ukrainian issue, we still have to return to Minsk's new agreement. Minsk's new agreement, which has been approved by the Security Council, is a fundamental political document, recognised by all sides, and must be implemented effectively. As efforts are made in line with the direction and spirit of the agreement, China will support them”, says the Chinese authorities' statement.
