In 2002, the famous actor Ben Affleck proposed Jennifer Lopez with a pink diamond ring 6.1 carat from Harry Winston, worth about $2.5 million at the time.
Since then the value of the diamond has increased.
“90 percent of pink diamonds come from one country: the Argyle mine in Australia, which announced its closure in 2020 and banned production this year”, said Ayay Anand, CEO of the company “Horizon Energy Distribution”.
“Since 1983, the Argyle Mine has been a leading producer of the world's best supply of pink diamond. The mine gives a rainbow of colors, from pink to blue and blue and rarest of all: red”, he continued.
Anand estimates Affleck would have to pay over $4m for the same stone today.
“Although it is unlikely that the mine will produce many pink diamonds in the six-karat range, the mine's closure has increased the prices of pink diamonds decorated. Our decorated partner has created rings similar to those of J. Lo, recently two years ago. The cost was approximately $10 million. I would imagine that the price of her ring would be closer to $11 million today”, she said.
Pink diamonds are much rarer than the colorless ones and the size of 52-year-old Lopez diamond makes it even more special
