What Hancock said in his letter of resignation
The event has caused outrage between his colleagues as well as the public who lived under impasses because of the pandemic.
The 42-year-old minister wrote to Prime Minister Boris Johnson that he was resigning, after the newspaper “The Sun” published pictures of the minister who is married, embracing and kissing a woman employed in his cabinet and being paid by taxpayers.
Hancock has been in charge of the government's fight against pandemic. He regularly appeared on television and radio, urging people to enforce strict rules in order to control the virus.
We owe it to people who have sacrificed so much during this pandemic and not disappoint them as I did by violating instructions”, he wrote in his letter to the prime minister.
Johnson replied that he regretted accepting his request.
“You should be extremely proud of your service”, he wrote.
“I am grateful for your support and believe that your contribution to the public service will never end”.
The newspaper “The Sun” published photos of Hancock kissing his assistant in the office last month, at a time when people were not allowed to have intimate contact with a person outside their family.
