American Professor: Kosovo independence is not discussed in dialogue, Serbia takes responsibility for its actions

He has described the meeting between the Kosovo delegation and Serbia in Brussels as a good sign of 15 June.

But, according to him, at the negotiating table, it should be negotiated only for points leading to the recognition of Kosovo independence on Serbia's part.

I think keeping the appointment is a good sign. So I'm glad that such an appointment has taken place. It is important, however, to know the context of such a meeting. My feeling has always been that every issue, any conflict issue between the two sides, could be put on the table, except one thing: Kosovo independence. This means that any negotiations can be done, as they lead to the recognition of Kosovo by Serbia. That's how I see it. If this issue is not decided from the beginning, the parties can achieve specific progress, but it would not be followed by what Kosovo would like to see happening. Therefore, I think the United States and Europe have made it quite clear that the goal is to recognise Kosovo's independence and that then Kosovo would be prepared to discuss every issue between the two sides, to achieve that target”, Ben Meir has said.

In addition, the American expert, profiled in the negotiations issue, said the prime minister, Albin Kurti, could place the responsibility of failing to dialogue on Serbia, if the latter continues to reject Kosovo as a state.

Well, if it's forever, then the EU should understand it very clearly. I advise Kurt to do everything in his hands and focus on social, political and economic developments in Kosovo. Keeping up with fighting corruption and telling the EU that Kosovo is always low and ready to negotiate, as well as making all the progress required to integrate into the EU. By doing so, Kurti will be able to place responsibility on Serbia. Then the EU will think differently, as long as Kosovo sincerely demonstrates that it is willing to sit down and negotiate any conflict issue, including the Association of Serb majority municipalities, including trade, or anything else that needs to be negotiated and the EU comes to the conclusion that Serbia is refusing to come and recognise Kosovo, then it should rethink its position and ties with Kosovo, and that it will put pressure on Serbia. I don't understand the EU unless it makes such a decision, if Serbia continues to reject and send signals that the EU can begin its integration process with Kosovo. That would put significant pressure on Serbia””, he said.

According to him, the United States of America and the European Union can co-ordinate their policies in order to pressure Serbia by setting conditions on the road to European integration.

The previous mention that he said he would never recognise Kosovo independence. What can we do now? We can do two things. Kosovo must prepare itself and meet any conditions required by the EU in order to qualify for integration. Option B: The US can continue to pressure Serbia. After all, Serbia wants to become a member of the West, so it needs to change its” position, Professor Meir concluded.
