After their victory on social networks circulated a video where Damiano leaned over the table and everyone suspected he had taken cocaine.
However, such doubts are once and for all after today's results.
Following allegations of drug use in the Green Chamber at Eurovision Song Conference in the grand finale on May 22nd, the EBU, as requested by the Italian delegation, has conducted a complete review of the facts, checking all available images. Also, the band singer Maneski voluntarily received a test today, which has resulted from negative, first and from EBU”, the official declaration of the European festival organisers said.
In fact, the singer himself denied having smoked cocaine during a press conference shortly after his victory.
“Thomas (group champion) broke a bottle... I don't use drugs, please, don't say that. Don't really say that. No cocaine please, don't say this”, Damiano said, after being asked by reporters in the hall if he did something like that.
Meanwhile today, prior to the results, French Minister for Europe Clement Beaune sought transparency in this case and even disqualified group.
“I think there is no need for doubt here and it needs full transparency. If there's a problem, there's punishment. Sanctionary measures have been made, including possible disqualification in case of problems”, the French minister, who was also present at “Eurovision”, said.
