On his 50th day in office (on Wednesday), his administration expects an important moment: final approval in Congress of its massive economic aid package of $1.9 trillion per Coronavirus. The bill includes direct payments for millions of Americans and funds to help the White House realise a number of promises made during President Beden's campaign, such as reopening schools and vaccinating more Americans.

In the first 50 days in office, President Biden has made major advances for a number of promises while still working to fulfill other promises requiring action. Here are some of the achievements in his key promises:

PROMISES EXPLAIN

President Beden gave priority to resolving the problem of the coronary pandemic during his first weeks in office, and the focus on this issue has brought results. He is expected to carry out his intention to make 100 million doses of vaccines in his first 100 days by the end of next week. The vaccine rate now averages more than 2 million vaccines a day. There have been over 75 million doses since Mr. Biden's inauguration.

Joe Biden also took some early action by fulfilling promises made to climate policies. On the day of the inauguration, he signed an executive order suspending permission for construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline, stopped drilling at the National Natural Zone in the Arctic Circle, and ordered revision of the rules of the Trump era for environment, public health and science. An executive order of January 27th halted new oil and gas drilling contracts on federal and offshore land.

President Beden also easily fulfilled the main promises made in the campaign to annul the policies of the former Trump administration in almost every area, from climate change to immigration. First, the Biden administration returned the country to the World Health Organisation and the Paris Climan Agreement, banned the construction of the border wall, ended travel restrictions for people from a number of majority Muslim countries, and established a working group to unite families divided at the US-Macedonian border.

In terms of immigration, President Biden pledged a draft law of contemporary reforms in Congress within his first 100 days and it was issued last month, although President Biden has signaled he is open to a more indirect approach if necessary. President Biden also signed an executive order that instructs National Security Adviser to “save and strengthen the protection of the new migrants brought to the United States by their parents.

Joe Biden also made some moves to fulfill his promise to strengthen ethical standards in administration, including an executive order on January 20th that imposes an ethical promise on government appointees for activities such as lobouring and receiving gifts, including preventing political interference at the Department of Justice.

WRITER IN PROCES

Mr. Biden's other promises remain an ongoing job.

President Beden's national strategy for COVID-19 envisioned the creation of 100 new vaccine centres by the end of February, supported by the federal government throughout the country. So far, the administration has created about 20 seats for mass vaccines run by the federal government and complete with military troops in office deployed by the Pentagon. The administration says that in total, at least 441 vaccine centres are now backed by the federal government. Many of them are not new centres, but almost all have expanded capacity with additional federal resources.

In terms of immigration, Mr. Biden pledged to reverse the regulation of “public challenge” imposed by the Trump administration to discourage immigrants from using public benefits, simplify the naturalisation process and reform the US asylum system within its first 100 days. An executive order he signed in early February directs relevant agencies to review these policies and recommend changes within 60 days.

The administration has taken action to reform the asylum system, including a movement by the National Security Department to suspend a Trump administration programme requiring asylum seekers to wait in Mexico as their claims are considered. But President Biden has not yet devised a plan to manage the influx of asylum seekers beyond the proposal that billions of dollars be spent to address the underlying causes of this problem in Central America.

The president has also held orders related to the pandemic allowing his administration to immediately expel people at the border without having an opportunity to seek asylum. Assistant President Beden have said they have no immediate plans to end this authority, which former President Trump brought into force a year ago using a vague 1944 public health law.

President Biden also promised to end the long-term ban on migraine families. The Migration and Customs Agency signalled last week that it plans to disrupt the use of such a structure, but will continue to keep households for three days or less in two other facilities in Texas. The Beden administration is expanding its capacity to a number of objects carrying immigrant children to address a steady increase of unaccompanied minors crossing the border.

In terms of climate change, Mr. Biden pledged to establish implementable commitments by other countries to reduce emissions in global transportation and aviation and organise a global climate summit to discuss new and more ambitious promises to address climate change within the first 100 days. The US will hold such a summit on April 22nd, which is Earth Day.

The reopening of schools is one of the main promises of Mr. Biden's campaign that has proved to be harder to implement, in part as the decision has been left to local officials and teachers' unions.

This month President Biden instructed the states to give priority to teachers to the vaccine and announced that he was appointing federal resources for vaccinating teachers in March.

The Beden administration hopes that with the adoption of the Coronavirus Economic Assistance Bill and the distribution of millions of dollars to schools to improve security measures, teachers will feel safer to return to classes.

About 47% of students by 12th grade have physical access to schools every day.

PRICE FOR PICTURE

The Biden administration has not yet taken significant actions on reform in criminal justice, except for an executive order that completes private prison contracts. Mr. Biden pledged to establish a police board within his first 100 days, but so far there has been no clear movement in that direction.

Other promises for the first 100 days to also await action: the creation of a cabinet-level working group to focus on promoting union participation and a review of the FBI's bio-control issue for arms purchase.

Some of Mr. Biden's promises for the first 100 days will require action in Congress, such as his promise to reauthorise the Act of Violence Against Women and raise taxes on corporations. Mr. Beden also promised to approve the Act of Equality, which prohibits sexual discrimination, sexual orientation and gender identity. This bill was adopted in the House of Representatives, but not in the Senate.

Some of his promises await confirmation by the Senate of his Cabinet secretaries. / VOA
