In an interview for European Western Balkans, he has said he expects dialogue to continue once the Government of Kosovo is formed.
“We are willing to do our job, but the speed of reaching an agreement is in the hands of the parties. We don't dictate speed, if they're willing to meet in Brussels every week, we're willing to meet them every week if they're ready to meet once in three months, then we can't force them”, Lajcak stressed.
He added that he was always against artificial deadlines because they don't work.
I said I knew the details of the process and I said it was possible to complete it within a month. We're here and we're here for the parties whenever they're ready, but it's up to both sides to decide for speed. We are here to provide solutions and I plan to visit Pristina and Belgrade soon. I will meet with President Vuciq, future Prime Minister Kurti and other partners to discuss continuing our process. My partners are serious politicians and they know what their people expect from them to draw them close to the European future and they also know what the EU expects of them”, Lajcak has said.
Meanwhile, regarding the comprehensive agreement and the full normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, Lajcak has said it is up to both sides to decide and the EU to mediate in the process, failing to dictate it.
“Of course, there must be a will from both sides to reach that agreement. If there is no will, then there is no agreement. But if there is no agreement, then there is no European future”, he has indicated, adding that the minimum Brussels expects from both sides is that they do not import open issues into the European family.
This means that you have to solve your bilateral issues or your regional issues before becoming a member. That is why we are talking about normalising relations”, the EU Special Envoy for Kosovo- Serbia.
