Following Ramush Haradinaj's statements for the referendum on Albania's union with Kosovo has reacted to the Russian Embassy in Albania, which have called these statements provocation.
The “here is referring to a coming provocation involving the ideology of Greater Albania, which has recently advanced more and more intensively in the region and directly threatens the territorial integrity of Balkan states” writes the Embassy in a Facebook response.
Several days ago Ramush Haradinaj said that for Kosovo's further development in the international arena, he sees as an option to hold a referendum on the National Union.
“I explained the risk of Kosovo remaining in the same position for the next many years, surrounded and isolated. Even though we have our Euro-Atlantic orientation, we are not without option, if this Kosovo situation will continue with the tendency to extend to endlessly. The other option, will be the referendum organized for our union with Albania, because we will not stand by. This is not a threat to anyone, but Kosovo simply needs NATO membership, either as an independent state or as a union with Albania”.
Such a reaction by the Russian Embassy in Tirana comes at a time when Albania announced grant to the British diplomat Krivosev, due to the disrespect of anti-Condavid measures. Russia has described this expulsion as a provocation on the part of Albania and, according to them, will not be left without mutual answers. We remember that on January 19th over Ramush Haradinaj's statement, Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic has also reacted, saying that a possible union of Kosovo with Albania is a threat not only to Serbia, but also to the region, Europe and the whole world.
Full response by the Russian Embassy in Albania:
From the Russian Federation Foreign Affairs Ministry's comment on Mr. Ramush Haradinaj. Recently one of the Kosovo Albanian politicians, Ramush Haradinaj, said it aims to hold a referendum on uniting Kosovo with Albania, if this self-declared psedu-state is not accepted in the European Union as soon as possible, and international organisations as Belgrade will not recognise Kosovo's “independence”.
Here is a future provocation, involved in the ideology of Greater Albania, which has recently advanced more and more intensively in the region and threatens directly the territorial integrity of Balkan states. Political trends are unacceptable and thus should be interpreted by R. Haradinaj, who is easily proposing to arbitrate the borders in the Balkans.
