The chairman of the Co-ordination Council among production and milk processing associations, Ramadan Memaj, has warned that from Tuesday to 29 September, all farmers, collection points and some milk processing will start with mass protests first in Pristina, and then across Kosovo.
The decision made by the MTI to ban the import of palm oil, according to milk, is considered flawed, since it does not predict how long products can stay in markets with this content, thus providing opportunities, reportedly, for the perrapaz to smuggle palm oil and keep these products on the market indefinitely.
We constantly control the markets and have seen that even a week after the introduction of this law there is no decline in the number or quantity of these products on our shelves. The amount of surplus today is 70,000 liters [70,000 L], but from the next week this amount will double and will soon reach 150,000 liters [50,000 L] of milk a day that must be eliminated. So our protests will not stop until any product is removed from the Kosovo market shelves and containing: palm oil mixed with dust milk, powdered hair, protein, genetic modification proteins and amidon”, the letter sent to Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti says.
Moreover, Memaj says that the Hoti government has until 29 September to take measures to remove these products from the market, commemorating that palm oil is cancerous and genooxic, and that the European Food Agency has confirmed.
