On the other hand, Lebanese Prime Minister Hasan Diabb, has warned tomorrow that it will be a day of mourning to honour the victims of powerful explosions, which have levelled most of Beirut near the maritime port, destroying numerous buildings, broadcast Telegrafi.
Lebanese Red Cross official George Ketaneh has claimed to be hundreds dead and injured. And the presidential palace has been destroyed, reports CNN.
A Civil Protection official has said that there are still persons at the seaport who are trapped under the ruins of buildings, the AP writes.
There is still no known cause of explosions in the city that has long been the target of bombings during civil war, suicide attacks, and bombing by Israeli forces.
Dozens of ambulances have reportedly transported the injured to the vicinity of the seaport, where many of them were lying in their blood cover until the fire consumed everything before themselves.
Local TVs have reported that the explosion occurred in a warehouse of pyrotechnics, and that the fire has engulfed another object nearby, triggering the second and most powerful explosion.
Eyewitnesses have compared this explosion to those of nuclear bombs, writes the Associated Press. And as France Press reports, being called into sources inside the security organs is about the explosives seized in the explosive port.
