In the Kosovo Police Inspectorate (IPK), 800 complaints were received against police officials, where 300 of them were prosecuted.
Objection Hodaj, task officer at the IPK, in an interview for Online Economics has confirmed that 32 police officials have been suspended, while 18.
He has clarified that the suspension of six police officers has been requested.
“We also have this year, even though it has been a year of pandemic we've accepted the same number of complaints and police officers and received 800 complaints so far against police employees where part of them have been named administrative violations and over 300 have been prosecuted by the Police Inspectorate”.
The “so far turns out that some 18 police employees have been arrested and 32 police officers suspended. As for developing the operational plan for implementation of measures by the Police during monitoring our teams have encountered several irregularities and 6 police officers have been requested suspension”.
He has further clarified that they have accepted several complaints concerning the selective approach of police officials in relation to citizens for respecting measures against pandemic.
To that end, he said they have undertaken an operational plan for monitoring police actions.
“We under our legal authorisation have for mandate monitoring and supervision of police officials and after some concerns by citizens and specific groups whether businesses or municipal officials and have encountered concerns perhaps in the unfair manner of implementing measures on the part of police or for a selective approach in some cases to some citizens or businesses”.
“... in its context we have undertaken an operational plan to monitor police actions and ensure citizens that government decisions and measures are being implemented fairly on their part. And this has had a fair effect because it's managed to increase the efficiency of the police”.
The Kosovo Police Inspector and the Prosecutor's Office have found that two police officials, involved in clashes with two citizens in Ferizaj, have not exceeded their competencies.
On August 14th, in the evening hours, two Kosovo Police members, during the inspection of the implementation of measures against COVID-19, at a shopping centre in Ferizaj, had clashed with two citizens who had not respected the measures against pandemic.
