Netflix cancels Turkish drama “Love 101” after the government stopped shooting because it presented a character HINAgay, Turkish media write, broadcast news.net.
This decision was not well received by actors, one of them even says there is no work left.
In a statement given, screenwriter Ece Yerenc says her performance has been cancelled a day before it starts, because the government gives no permission for foreign products.
“Netflix cancelled the show after talks with Turkey's audiovisive authority RTUK. It's very scary that because of a homosexual character, the shoots were not allowed”, Yerec said.
There were unconfirmed voices that Netflix would withdraw from Turkey, but such speculations were rejected on Monday.
“We are very committed to our members in Turkey and the creative community” said Netflix Turkey in a statement. Turkey's deputy head of government, Mahir Unal, has indicated on Monday that he believed Netflix would show great sensitivity to Turkish culture and art with deeper co-operation in the future.
