Britain's Centre for National Cyber Security said drug companies and scientific groups are being targeted by a gang of hackers called APT29, which is believed to be part of the Kremlin intelligence services.
British officials did not indicate whether any of the attacks had been successful in achieving the goal of stealing medical secrets, although they pointed out that none of the vaccine research had been repaired to this point, writes The Guardian, followed by Albanian Periscope.
It is rare for Britain to speculate that it believes another country is behind the co-ordinated cyberattack campaign, but British officials suggested they were sharing the same assessment with the United States and Canada.
Even these two countries are expected to provide information on cases.
The APT29 group has been active for many years, and is known in the hacker community as the “The Dukes” or as “Cozy Bear”.
