Manuel Neuer, captain of German national and Bayern Munich, has become a protagonist without playing, but because he's shown up in a video while singing Lijepa Li Si (” You are beautiful”, a song by Thompson, a Croatian group accused many times of praising national fascism.
The band is called “Thompson” just because Marko Perkoviić, the lead singer, used a Thompson brand gun during the war.
During the holidays in Dalmaci, Neuer has been filmed, while along with several guests (including Bayern goalkeeper Tony Tapalovic) sings Adriatic-side Lijepa Li Si, Croatia's beauty anthem.
Thompson, in their concerts, plays the Ustscia song, which celebrates the killing of Jews and Serbs in Jasenovac concentration camps, greets the public with a tense arm, as much as the gang has been banned from giving concerts in some European countries.
That's why Germany has caused Neuer's video controversy and public opinion is demanding that the goalkeeper take a position over what happened.
At the moment, Manuel has declined to give comments, while his staff suggest Neuer does not speak and understand Croatian. His being with him was Tony Tappalovic, his friend, able to speak perfectly both Croatian and German does not help him avoid criticism.
