The UK announced last Saturday that it was restoring 14 days of quarantine for people coming from Spain. A move to stop Avid-19, but not jeopardising Manchester City-Real Madrid, the return match of the 1/8 final Champions final, scheduled to take place in the English city on 7 August.
British Culture Minister confirmed that sports events are excluded from mandatory quarantine for those coming from Spain.
This Monday, Hughes Elliot, the ambassador of the United Kingdom to Spain, explained why Real Madrid can play the match in Manchester without being subjected to quarantine, although he assured that the fact that it violates British soil does not mean freedom of movement for the white team:
There's a list of exceptions from quarantine. Elite athletes are part of that list. However, I must insist that there is no absolute freedom for Real Madrid on British soil. Movements will be controlled, only in the function of the match, to reduce risks. Today I can't say when we're going to remove this quarantine mass, because we're constantly looking at the numbers of the affected”.
U n EFA did not comment on the situation, but sources from the top European football body said this match is in the hands of the United Kingdom government, which has already confirmed that it will be played in the “Etid”, on 7 August, as planned, behind closed doors and under the security protocol UEFA is drafting. A protocol that will join that of the United Kingdom government. One thing is certain: Real Madrid will be strictly monitored on the British expedition, must be passed on to “needle destruction” from Covid-19.
