Hysni Gucati, chairman of the KLA's OVL, has said on the KTV Report, that about 68 veterans have committed suicide since the war ended in Kosovo. He says 20 years later, veterans are in a serious situation. “This liberation anniversary finds veterans in an uncomfortable situation where in [...]
He says 20 years later, veterans are in a serious situation.
“This liberation anniversary finds veterans in an uncomfortable situation where we actually have a large number of veterans, where a number of them are sick and some of them live in extreme poverty and not just as we thought 20 years after the war they find you healed, employed. Responsibilities are held by post-war governments, all that have been in power”, Gucati has said.
He has also said they have not received support during the pandemic by Kurti Government.
“During this time of pandemic, we have addressed former Prime Minister Kurti with a request to enter the fiscal package to introduce the disabled, veterans and children of martyrs, but this has encountered a deaf ear. But we in our chances have tried to be close to them”, he said.
Gucati then said 52 veterans died this year, who are natural deaths, but since the post-war 68 veterans have committed suicide.
We have a large number, only recently since January, over 52 Kosovo Liberation Army veterans, who have names and surnames. Even 12 in Turkey's hospitals that are recovering from cancer. A friend of ours who is in trouble, as we have problems having the hospital admit. About 99 percent are natural deaths, but there have been suicides, which are about 68, if I'm not mistaken, from the end of the war”, Gucati said.
According to him, veterans have a serious situation due to trauma.
We have a very serious situation due to trauma, economic-Social state, have children and can't school, and that makes it their difference. But, especially because of the traumas of war, the biggest consequences are from war”, he said.
He says they expect the law to be issued in parliament as well, and that they are now in the final phase of preparing the Law for War Values and veterans, which according to him should have better treatment.
He has also spoken of the Law on veterans, which says none of the previous governments have worked in this regard.
I've only met Kurt. But, I had a meeting with Haradinaj, Mustaf, I had a meeting with everyone in my term. They always like it, we've been told this job will be done, and soon we'll take care of it, but they haven't done it at all. The law that's left in their drawers I believe even dust covered” is expressed as Gucati.
Gucati has denied that the KLA's OVL has recently received 390m euros.
He says 81 thousand euros have been earmarked for the OVL, eight thousand euros have been earmarked for four veterans for healing, and 71 thousand have been earmarked for the baja, while the others have been divided for the disabled association and the association of martyrs. As far as psychological aid is concerned, Gucati says many of the veterans are not notified.
