Hoxhaj: Historical moment for Kosovo agreement

Enver Hoxhaj, former foreign minister in Kosovo, talking about the challenge of negotiations with Serbia, says the current government is legitimate and legal, but has so far failed to present any serious platforms for the process. PDK Headship member told “Balkan Talks” that his party is in opposition but on state issues will support the government.

“We are opposition to the Kosovo government, but we will not be opposition to the state of Kosovo. We will support the government on every Kosovo state issue, but we will see how serious the government is in relation to dialogue. So far we have seen only a weak content of the government platform, so we seek the government's principles for dialogue. So far we don't see any serious approaches. Without an internal co-ordination of the main political forces in Kosovo, I think we will not be able to sign an agreement with Serbia and at least implement”, MP Hoxhaj said.

For the former foreign minister, Kosovo must use this historic moment to reach an agreement in its favour. Here he referred to U.S. Chinese rivalry and Europe's collapse of influence.

““We need to use the favourable political situation and American and European attention and not waste time. I fear for future in Kosovo if we do not seize this historic chance. There is a greater rivalry between the US and China, and on the other hand Europe is losing its gravity”, Hoxhaj said.

Kosovo's “in the foreign plan has major opponents. It is true that we have US and EU support, but the biggest opponents remain Russia and China, so we should be aware of the timing at which it is conducted. I see possible co-operation with the government if the government is serious in dialogue”, the deputy added PDK.

Hoxhaj assigned three main points that must be met by the current government for launching dialogue: literal platforms, to believe dialogue, as government parties in the past have not believed this process and to co-ordinate with the US and the EU so that a Washington-Brussel division could not arise as Mr. Kurt's been in government.

Asked by the show director, Franco Egro if The PDK sticks to the demand for early elections after the pandemic, Hoxhaj said: “As any opposition wherever requires early elections and we are in opposition and we call for early elections. When the pandemic was finished, The PDK is ready to have early elections. ”

As Kurti comments on relations- The US, he said the former prime minister has tried to create a false opinion that the US have removed him from power. This doesn't last. Mr. Kurti has actually completed his political career as prime minister by the will of the LDK, since he has not been able to manage the situation where he was responsible. There may have been some calculations of him that if he doesn't take responsibility for the pandemic and dialogue can be restored and more powerful”, Hoxhaj said.

As for the idea of a possible exchange of territories between the two countries, Hoxhaj said his stance PDK is against it. Our “This is for Kosovo's construction state to end with the limits of declaring independence. The exchange of territory is unacceptable. We do not accept a bad agreement on Kosovo”, the former foreign minister said.

The former head of diplomacy said further that, welcomed Miroslav Lajka as the EU's special representative in the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue, but on the other hand condemned the recent statements of Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Policy.

If it were up to Lajcak, Slovakia would recognise Kosovo's independence, as Kosovo passports have recognised and supported us several times to join the mechanisms. What Borrell has said has been harmful to Kosovo and politically immature. We expect the EU to have clarification on the approach of dialogue and to life access to the last eight years. Transatlantic Unity The US-EU for closing the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue in favour of Kosovo, as we have genuine strategic opponents”, Hoxhaj concluded.
