An American judge has placed $1.25m in bail out of police officer Derek Chauvin, who went on trial for the first time Monday on charges of killing African-American George Floyd.
After the short hearing session via video connection from the detention that is currently located by the former police officer, Judge Jeanice Redding from the county of Hannepin County Minneapolis has scheduled for 29 June the next session to address the basis of the case.
Derek Chauvin (44) is accused of killing George Floyd (46), two weeks ago after being shot to the neck for almost 9 minutes.
The drama, which was recorded on a mobile phone by a passerby and images spread quickly online, sparked a wave of protests in the United States and spread throughout the world.
The judge first assigned a $1 million roof and then raised it for $250,000.
Minnesota Deputy Prosecutor General Matthew Frank said that the importance of the prosecution and the force of public anger against Chauvin could easily force the arrested to flee if allowed to be tried in general.
Chauvin is accused of second-degree murder. Three of his colleagues at Minneapolis, charged with helping Floyd's murder, were brought to the tribunal last week for the first time, which provided a $1m bail release.
