But is this something considered to be on the table according to US Ambassador to Kosovo Philip Costett?
“The United States is always present everywhere with its military force. We see this from the security aspect around the world and in different countries. In that sense, I don't think anyone expects KFOR to exist forever”.
If the reports between Kosovo and Serbia improve, tensions are reduced, and if a ceasefire is reached in the region, then there would be fewer reasons for KFOR to continue to be there and that would be a success when that day comes”.
I don't want to speculate that when this day comes, but still the citizens of Kosovo, and in any other country where the U.S. has established this program, they should not assume that the United States has nothing to say about how this works, that the future of American troops is a decision that the American government has made, whether it is decided that our troops will continue serving in Germany or in Korea or anywhere else in the world. When I say that, I want to make sure KFOR is there for a reason, but that it will not forever be”.
Costett in an exclusive interview in Rubik, Kosovo, has said American troops are in Kosovo to maintain peace, but will not be here forever as nowhere in the world.
The US “KFOR troops are here to preserve the peace and security of Kosovo citizens and will continue to ensure stability in the region. We do not consider that the presence of our troops will be eternal anywhere in the world”, Costett has declared.
