The Venice Commission appears to have responded to the incumbent prime minister, Mr. Albin Kurti, following his request for opinion in relation to President Thaci's competencies. This has even been made known by the Government's Office for Communication.
This announcement states that the Venice Commission has decided to respect the Constitutional Court's decision-making, which decided to temporarily suspend the president's decree.
Prime Minister Kurti has been sharply criticised in public opinion for disrespecting the Constitutional Court's decisions and violating the country's Constitution, which is the country's highest judicial act and should be considered holy by any government.
Government announcement:
This requirement was submitted to the Venice Commission after the President's decree was published and prior to the decision to impose the provisional measure by the Constitutional Court.
After the Constitutional Court has ruled on the implementation of the provisional measure until May 29th, suspending the action of the President's Decree, and since the Court is handling the case, the Commission has estimated to respect the Constitutional Court's decision since it has only acted.
We welcome the Commission's suggestion to respect and await the application review and decision of the Constitutional Court. After treatment if additional clarifications and assistance for opinion from the Commission are seen, we will take the necessary steps.
