Strategic investors did not even bring Kurti Government

The law for strategic investments passed three years ago in the assembly did not bring the country yet to any strategic investor so far, even though there have been some applications for this status from some local and foreign companies. Neither in the 100 days of Kurti Government has any company app for strategic investors been considered.
The business community and companies aiming to be strategic investors express concern over the neglect of relevant institutions and mistreatment.
Surprised by the lack of strategic investments, the executive director of the American Economic Ode in Kosovo, Arian Zeka, who says of Kosova Preis that in time some companies have expressed concern about the status of the strategic investor, who are failing to get answers to their applications from the ministry.
Director Zeka also says that the first strategic investor status app had occurred in the past government, but that company that has submitted the first app has not yet received an answer.
“We already have the law on strategic investment that has been in force since 2017, at the same time as the previous government you had submitted the first app for the status of the strategic investor, as to the irony of fate the very company that has delivered the first app, has yet to receive no response, we have constantly received concerns on the part of companies regarding the status of the strategic investor, a response that we would receive from the ministry, for which these answers have lacked”, Zeka claims.
He further claims he is aware of the latest situation with pandemics in the country, however, according to Zeka the relevant ministries would have been able to continue their work even on revising applications that have been submitted for this period.
“in the 100-day balance of this government, of course one of the questions that we and the others that we can introduce is why strategic investors' applications have not been addressed for this period. Why the whole focus has been shifted, of course the public health preservation has been primary, but yet we have different government dictatorships and we believe that Ode U.S. would have been able to continue their work, and here I am also referring to the revision of applications that have been submitted to the status of the strategic investor, and for this period of 2020 we have really seen no single”, he says.
For more than two weeks, Kosova Prees has sought answers from the Ministry of Economy, Employment, Trade, Industry and Strategic Investment (MEPTINIS), but have not responded to the issue of lack or treatment of apps for strategic investors.
One of the companies in the country is also “Foods”, which has applied for strategic investors in February 2019 and has not yet received an answer from MEPTINIS regarding this app.
Edon Bibaij company lawyer “Composte Foods”, says of Kosovas that they have completed all documents on the basis of what has been a specific request from the K Agency. IESA to be declared a strategic investor in the Republic of Kosovo, but according to him, have faced ongoing procedural difficulties.
Lawyer Bibaj claims that with the law's entry into force for strategic investment, the company “Cosmified Foods” had welcomed this law and strongly believed it would be fully implemented, given the good things this country's citizens can enjoy, for greater economic development and increased employment.
The “has been over a year since it applied “Cosmated Foods” and we have still not received answers about this issue, while the company's interest in developing, to carry out capital investments that it has planned in the state of the Republic of Kosovo, and as a result of not receiving the final answer to announce or to be declared as a strategic investor, it has not been able to realise these investments.... There are also now several new investments planned with foreign investors, mainly Slovenian and German”, Bibaj says.
This company's lawyer has added that with the realisation of these investments, an increase in the number of workers between 600 and 700 was planned, while currently there are 280 employees in the company.
“Consuming fuuds”, Bibaj said it is one of the biggest companies in the country, simultaneously one of the biggest taxpayers, who co-operates with 99 per cent of the biggest European companies, and is aimed at having some of these companies join investors in the Republic of Kosovo.
We remember that years ago there was interest by energy sector companies to declare strategic investors.
