The PDK says it is unacceptable to tolerate such massive public activity at a time when hundreds of thousands of Kosovo citizens cannot circulate freely, cannot go to work, cannot gather for Iftar with their relatives or perform other religious rituals, as well as freely develop collective family and social activities.
“The PDK also considers this political organisation of the Vetevendosje Movement, as the next attempt to pressure the Constitutional Court over the sensitive issue it is handling. This is a low act against the rule of law and constitutional order in this country and with a view to scenarios of violence, coming several days after the blackmailing letter sent by the dismissed Prime Minister Kurti, as well as other forms of threats he has made to”, it is said in the communiqué.
According to the media communiqué, The PDK says that choosing the road from a political grouping can never replace rule of law in our country, nor prevent the functioning of our democratic institutions.
This call for protest also exposes the hypocrisy of the Vetevendosje Movement, which on the one hand calls for social distance and stay at home and on the other in this extraordinary situation of pandemic, is organising a gathering that would seriously jeopardise the public health of citizens”, it is further said.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo considers that, organising a rally, in this period, would jeopardise not only potential attendees who would break health institutions' rules to come to the gathering, but also threaten their family circle and other social contacts.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo remains committed to strengthening the rule of law and respecting human fundamental rights, including the legitimate right to rally.
But the situation is still very serious, all life is important, and it deserves every possible effort by all to save everyone's life. The rise in new cases of infection in the last 24 hours in our country shows that this battle has not yet been won and cannot be jeopardised by a party, which being in power has double responsibility.
So we call on the state prosecution to take action to investigate all those who are endangering public health.
We also call on the police to continue their good work thus far and to act seriously within the grave situation of pandemic. Police must treat all citizens equally and rigorously in terms of driving bans in line with scheduled schedules.
