Brazil
Brazil looks like the new global pandemic era. With more than 21,000 confirmed cases and almost 19 thousand deaths, Latin America's largest nation is expected to surpass Russia as second with the largest number of cases in the world, after only The United States.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is under mounting pressure to tackle his explosion, which is casting doubt about his re-election and many doubt whether he will even complete his mandate.
Ecuador
Ecuador's Defence Minister Oswaldo Jarrin reported yesterday that 800 soldiers have tested positive to the choreography and that seven deaths have been recorded among members of the armed forces due to the virus.
Ecuador has reported 34.854 confirmed cases of coronary and 2,888 deaths. The peak of infections is expected during the following weeks in Quito, the country's capital, which now has a similar infection rate like Guayaquil, the most affected city by COVID-19.
Quito has already begun to feel the effects of the epidemic on its care capacity in hospitals. The head of the capital, Jorge Yunda, has ordered that a temporary hospital be established with hundreds of beds on the first signs of collapse in other hospitals.
Mexico
Mexico, which was reported on February 29, has recorded a new peak in deaths by COVID-19.
Health authorities reported 424 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 6,090. So far, in this country a total of 56,594 people have contracted the virus.
Guatemala
Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammatti said yesterday that the US is not his country's ally in the fight against pandemic. He criticised the US president's government, Donald Trump, for expulsion of migrants infected with COVID-19.
“Guatemala is an ally of the US, US is not an ally of Guatemala”, Giammatei said during a virtual dialogue with the US-based Atlantic Council.
Giammateti said the arrival of migrants with COVID-19 has filled quarantine centres in Guatemala and tightened the country's poor health system.
“We understand that the US wants to expel people, we understand this, but what we don't understand is that they send us contaminated flights”, Guatemala's president said.
Of over 2,000 cases of coronary in Guatemala, authorities have reported about 100 U.S. immigrants with COVID-19.
Cuba
Cuba for seven days has not recorded new deaths from the Coronavirus. The number of infections has also decreased in the last week, away from the average of 50 daily cases recorded over the past month.
According to official data, the epidemic has begun to come under control on the island of Cuba, where as of March 11th, when the first case was discovered, 1,908 persons have been reported infected and 80 dead.
The challenge now lies in the long ranks that form outside shops due to food shortages.
