In 1444, he gathered all Albanian princes into the League of Lezha, where he was unanimously determined to fight for the possession of Albanian lands against the Ottoman Empire.
At the head of the Albanian Army, following its first victory against the Ottomans in the Battle of Torville, Skenderbeu would win 22 major victories against Ottomans in the war years at the helm of his army, which was headquartered by Kruja.
The national hero would be known for his relentless struggle at a key location between east and west. He would be known as faithful to the king of Naples in the Treaty of Gate, where he supported King Ferdinand of Naples in the civil war of 1460 1461.
In 1463 he was commander of the forces of Pope Pius II Crusade, when he died on January 17, 1468, at 63.
