Abraham: Kosovo's relations with US today are at lower level

Relationships with the United States today are at the lowest level ever in our modern history.

The reasons are numerous, but what prevails is the inability of the Kosovo political class to adopt with the changes in strategic interests that the United States has.

In the National Security Strategic document published in 2017, unlike the Obama Administration, which viewed environment and climate change as the greatest danger of national security, administration Trump sees danger from the Russian and Chinese factors.

The Kosovo political class has failed to understand this change, but has remained in local policymaking, where the war takes place for one more vote.

We already have three governments that have collapsed as a result of miscalculations and brief US relations.

The US continues to be Kosovo's biggest supporter in the international arena. This has been made clear through two letters of President Trump to leaders in Kosovo and Serbia, as well as through the appointment of a special emissary for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.

This has opened a new window of possibilities Kosovo politics has so far not been able to exploit. On the contrary, he has unusually opposed it. Serbia on the other hand has played smarter, making Kosovo's position even more inappropriate.

Kosovo must find its way to line up with the United States in this effort to resist Russian and Chinese influence. Opposition means alignment with the last two against The United States.

Dialogue and agreement with Serbia are part of this strategy. Kosovo should not fear such an agreement. Rather, he should welcome and become an equal and a constructive partner.

It is not surprising that countries like Russia and China do not welcome such a solution, and it is expected that they work against it. Kosovo society must be wise not to fall victim to this opposition, which to us unfortunately is coming in different forms, sometimes dressed and camouflaged, even with local clothing.
