21 years ago, Serbian forces had initially fired guns at the direction of more than 50 Berisha family members, and then the victims of the wounded were carried into a coffee shop where they had been shot with bombs to ensure that no one survives.
It all began when the houses of this family, which are not located more than 100 meters from the Suhareka police station, were to appear before the Serb paramilitaries, who some would kill on the doorstep of the house and others would be expelled from their home, sending them to a coffee shop where the massacre would occur. Three family members have survived from this massacre, Vjollca Berisha, with his son, Gramoz and Shyhrete Berisha. In memory of this terrible day for the Berisha family,
Gramoz Berisha and his mother, Vjollca, have commemorated their favorites at the entrance to the bar, where 21 years ago they were killed and 52 their family members burned. They survived with Shyhret, along with them, to tell the world of the human tragedy of a small people in the middle of Europe. They survived to weigh upon us the burden, the responsibility, and the memory of not forgetting who we were and who we are today. We owe Gramoz a lot, and thousands of families lost their best loved ones. May the memory of them be forever”, writes Basmir Xhemaj on Facebook.
The Berisha family has also received support from other family members on the day of the commemoration of this terrible massacre. “How often I hear the saying
I remember Mrs. Vjolca who decided to continue her life to turn a boy into a rock! You served our Mozi to make him a man today and serve this people, you're inspired to every parent”, you write Uri Zenelay on Facebook. A few years ago, some of the members were found and buried the remains of Berisha, Faton Berisha, Nexhat Berisha and Arta Berisha, under military honours. But not all Berisha family members have yet to be found.
