Renowned Croatian coach Miroslav “Ciro” Blazevic has said the past period in Kosovo was the most interesting in his long career.
Blazevic, 85, has led Pristina in the mid-eightth year, at the edition when the mission was the remnant of the former Yugoslavia's football elite. The mission was successfully completed, while Blazevic made many friends in Kosovo. He is still remembered as one of the largest trainers to have led Pristina at its golden time.
Blazevic has given a long interview for the Serbian language site <x0kosovo-online. com”, where he talked about the period at Pristina.
He has said that with all the long time spent since he worked in Kosovo, Kosovars are in his heart.
The “really was an adventure, because my career has been very long. But when I'm asked what period was best for me, I say the most interesting was in Kosovo. The beginning itself was strange, since me and Grashoppers had won the title”, Blazevic said at the beginning of the interview.
Croatian legend has said that in 1986 it had nothing to do with Pristina. He has indicated they have met two people who told him they have pledged to bring him to Pristina.
I know what the oath is, but at first I didn't take it seriously. Their insulation that only I can help not fall from evil has led to certain doubts in my thoughts. In the end, I accepted and did not repent”, Blazevic said.
According to him, it was about members of the club, but it was also about the then - important people of the committee.
Blazevic is eager to remember the period at Pristina. He has made good friends, and now their children look to him with great love. This, according to legend, is a sign that he left a trail.
We trainers depend on the circumstances. Then all were standing, and lived for him that Pristina might be saved. I came as a kind of star after winning the 1982 Dinamon title. The expectations were too great to escape the fall from the league. You can think now, 35 thousand people were in the stadium and just as many outside. It was a football euphoria that is not forgotten. We trainers always want such an atmosphere, climate like that. And what climate my friends have created for me, it's unforgetted”.
Blazevic has said all Pristina players were simple. He stressed that even legend Fadil Vorkry has not allowed him to isolate himself. According to him, it's a coach's mistake when a player favors himself. He has confirmed that the fans carried him by the stadium to Grand Hotel.
I was blown to the Grand Hotel until I got to the second floor. Teresa Kesov, who I invited to start the ball from the middle, was in the window on the second floor while fans threw me away. When she saw how I was flying, she was shocked. It's one of the moments I've experienced in Kosovo. In every country there I felt so much love. And we trainers depend on the results. When you get one, you're the one when you're not packing and you're going to go”
According to Chira, the most important match was with Vardar, perhaps crucial. He said he did something in that fight he never did in a career. He threatened his opponent's best player.
He has talked about reports of people of politics at the time and the risk it was to lead Pristina. He has shown that there have been constantly guards with him who have assured Pristina.
Of course it was dangerous. Where I'm going, it's a risk of”
Blazevic has ruled out the possibility of a match set up at the time. With players at Pristina having no contact, but constantly meets someone from Kosovo and took photographs.
“I haven't been in Pristina for a long time, but I'd like it to come as anonymous and a little to remember that time”, Blazevic said. He has said he took Pristina last place and closed the championship in the middle of the table. He has yet again been waiting in Pristina.
I arrived at three o'clock in the morning and thousands of people have been waiting for me. Everyone has believed that by my coming Pristina will be saved. It was not easy to cope with that pressure. When expectations are high because of renomic and credibility, you should prepare well to reason on expectations. It wasn't football victory. It was a national victory, that's how they got it”, Blazevic said.
According to him, Kosovo has talented players and that Kosovo's representative has proved it can be competitive.
