The alarm reflected how much the American nation had become dependent on the right - speaking doctor and without scrolls for the distribution of pandemic. For many Americans under anxiety, Fauci had become the voice of reason in times of great uncertainty.
His absence at another press conference was a cause for great concern. Was he marginalized for opposing the president? Was he healthy?
Asked about his absence from a journalist at The Guardian, Trump said: “While I was with him,” and then said that Fauci was “at a task-force meeting”.
Fauci himself later spoke of his absence, saying it was “crushed by fatigue” but otherwise “well”.
“As I know, I'm not infected with coronary,” he said, adding later: “As I know, I'm not even fired. ”
But he went on to say that some of the things President Trump had said were not based on facts.
