Canada and Australia will not send athletes to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo because of the dangers associated with the explosion of the Coronavirus, Olympic committees of both countries said in separate statements.
The two countries' Olympic Committees also called for the games to be postponed until 2021.
“While we know the natural complexities about a postponement, nothing is more important than the health and security of our athletes and the world community,” said the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Parliamentary Committee in a joint statement Sunday.
This is not just about the health of athletes ʹ it's about public health”, the statement follows.
The executive board of the Australian Olympic Committee met with teleconference Monday. It told them that our “porters must now give priority to their health and their families”.
