Granit Jaka discovered that the time Arsenal decided to take over the team captain's tape has been the hardest time in his career and that he was afraid he would never play for the London club again. The Albanian midfielder says he will think twice if he is offered the opportunity to become a captain again.
In November, then coach Unai Emery stripped the band of Swiss National midfielder of Kosovo's midfielder, due to a voice Jaka had had with fans during the Arsenal 2.2 draw with Crystal Palace in Emirates on October 27th, the newspaper Express broadcast.
Arsenal fans booed Jaka when she was replaced, urging her to react to them by insulting them in English. Later, Jaka's family was abused online by club fans.
Now, as Michael Artetas' arrival at the club coach post, Jaka is a regular major, but asked by the English media if he thought the Palace game was the last in his career for Arsenal, he said: “of course, I couldn't lie to you. I thought about it at that moment, because it wasn't easy for me and my family. I hope people understand me”
But I think I showed character. I'm not a running person. I always say to the club: While I'm here, I'll give you everything from myself. It's always been like this”, he added.
Clearly, the loss of the captain's tape has been painful for Jaka, who became the center of criticism by fans in the last days of Emery at the club. Since then, the Albanian midfielder has worn the captain's strip temporarily, for coincidence against Palace, when he was given in the last few minutes during the 1:1 draw in Selhurst Park.
But Jaka admits that she is reluctant to accept it then and says she still has reservations to become captain in the future if asked.
I know what this team can offer with or without the captain's tape. I didn't want to accept the captain's tape against Palace, but Socrates and David Luiz told me I should take it. If one day the club asks me to be captain, I'll think twice”, Jaka insisted.
