Many cases of Afghan soldiers' attacks on American allies have been recorded in Afghanistan during the 18 years of war.
A Defence Ministry spokesman, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he had no permission to issue statements for media, said the attacker was an Afghan soldier who had argued with American forces before launching the attack.
The U.S. Army statement states: “An individual in Afghan uniform has attacked the combined American and Afghan forces with a machine gun. We are still collecting information and the motive of the attack so far is unknown. ”
In July last year, two American soldiers were killed by an Afghan colleague in Kandahar province. The attacker was injured and later arrested.
