Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has for the first time paid tribute to former President Ibrahim Rugova's grave.
After bowing down to his grave, Kurti said Kosovo's 12th anniversary of independence is praised by the political commitment and the insistent efforts of Ibrahim Rugova for freedom and independence.
“As Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, today as we mark the 12th anniversary of Independence remember the first president of the Republic of Kosovo, Ibrahim Rugova, elected by popular vote on May 24th 1992. A decade later on March 4th 2002, Dr Ibrahim Rugova is again elected president of Kosovo, this time the first president in liberated Kosovo. In a day like this, we appreciate the insistent and institutional efforts, the political commitment to freedom and independence. May Kurt rest in peace and rest”, stated.
We remember that in the past, Albin Kurti has not recognised this contribution of former President Rugova to Kosovo's freedom and independence, as he said today. Kurti had even declared Rugova working against Kosovo's interests.
To pay tribute to the grave of former president 14 years after his death, Kurt was accompanied by Parliament Speaker Vjosa Osmani. /Periscopi/
